Thumbs up Lexus UX 300e

At the recent Los Angeles Auto Show, Toyota told us that its dealers had yet to put pressure on the automaker to give them an EV and that its customers havent expressed great interest in buying one, either.

Toyota may be in no rush to bring a battery electric vehicle to market, but while the budget-brand seems perfectly content with its growing lineup of hybrids and plug-ins, the luxury-minded folks over at Lexus appear to have greater ambitions.

AutoGuide has dug up a trademark application filed by Toyota with the European Intellectual Property Office for UX300e. The Lexus naming scheme uses lowercase h to denote hybrid vehicles, so this filing appears to point to the eventual arrival of a fully electric Lexus UX300e crossover.

I'm guessing that this probably wouldn't come to market until at least 2020. But with new electric crossovers from Kia and Hyundai already out, it's a smart move for Lexus to get their own electric to market quickly.

Great move for Lexus to make but a more global approach is required. To me that would mean a Lexus ISxxx-e

Its looking like the hybrid model will be the only configuration that's available with AWD. I'm assuming that the electrical assistance also brings a small boost to power output?

From what I read that's correct.
Its actually happening to a greater extent on supercars and hypercars right now. The McLaren P1, Acura NSX and Porsche 918.
